Autumn Stroll Through Town and Country

In the coastal southern United States, Autumn is usually a season that hurries by too quickly. High temperatures remain until late September or early October and when the cool weather does finally move in, it only stays for a couple of weeks. Some years, when we actually have a frost or freeze or two, the leaves will change colors in fall, but often those fall leaves don't show their brilliant colors until late November or early December.

Through the years we have photographed and painted some of the sites of Autumn in Louisiana and have featured them on our various Zazzle Galleries. We hope you enjoy this stroll through the Louisiana towns and in the country in fall.

Fall Leaves

Beautiful fall leaves are not abundant in Louisiana, but we do have Witch Hazel which blooms in late fall and has yellow leaves. The Swamp Maples and Sourwood trees also usually put on a show with their red leaves and Red Bud trees have lovely yellow ones. These designs are on our Naturally Native Creations Gallery.

Nuts, Seeds and Berries

Many native seeds and berries adorn the forest in fall. The native Yaupon holly's red berries stay on the tree through winter and the Inland Sea Oats make a pretty harvest picture along the edge of the riparian areas. An unusual fruit forms on the native Euonymus Americanus, also known as Strawberry Bush, Hearts-a-bustin and Deer Candy. These designs are on our Naturally Native Creations Gallery.
