Turtle, Bass Fish and Mysterious Blob

I love to take photos of the animals in our habitat, especially those that live in and around water. Turtles are one of my favorite reptiles. Many aquatic ones live in the Tchefuncte River as well as in the pond and the creek by our house. It is not uncommon to happen upon interactions with other creatures.

One day I observed a poor little turtle and a large mouth bass in our pond. On the same day a mysterious blob appeared in our pond. We hope you enjoy the pictures. See if you can identify the mystery blob and don't forget to vote in the poll for the one that you think is the best.

Life in a pond can be challenging, especially for a little turtle.

Life in & around the pond is never boring.

Each day, after our morning walk, we stop at our 1/4 acre pond so that Al can feed the fish and other creatures. I usually have my camera handy as I walk around inspecting the plantings and blooms. Sometimes we get some good action shots with our Canon S5IS and sometimes we take pictures of things that are just strange looking.

One day a small turtle had an encounter with a big bass. Check out the photos.

The Little Turtle and the Big Bass

He paddled his webbed feet as fast as he could and he grew closer. He could almost taste the soft treat.

Rats, said the little turtle, missed again! But wait the man still has some bread. Throw me something mister!

Sometimes we see unusual organisms in the water. What do you think this is. We call it "The Blob". Take the poll and/or write your guesses in the comments section.

Female Sliders

Female turtles leave the water to dig a hole nearby and lay their leathery eggs. In a few week, tiny babies, about the size of a quarter emerge. As soon as they dig their way out, they rush to the water. Not all of them make it to the pond because of predators such as crows, herons, snakes and mammals, but many do.
